1. Introduction

This document gives you an overview of the Doodle database and its componets. Doodle stands for "Database of oligomerization domains from lambda experiments". Doodle was developed to store and distribute information about protein oligomerization domains encoded by various genomes found using lambda repressor fusions. Doodle uses a schema based on EnsEMBL as well as bioperl modules to store and retrieve data. The genomic view was developed using GMOD. Doodle uses MySQL for its backend and the front end was developed entirely in perl.

To set up a database you need a server running MySQL write access to the html and cgi-bin directories as well as a fair knowledge of perl and cgi programming. If you feel like you don't have those skills it is better to tell Jim that you can't do it and get someone who can do this. On the other hand if you only want to upload data you just need a little bit of unix/linux experience. I am going to try to give you as many examples as I can.
